Nollywood Actress, Susan Peters featured in International Afro American Magazine, Black Beauty And Hair.

Nollywood Actress, Susan Peters, is the first Nigerian and Nollywood actress to be featured in Black Beauty And Hair Magazine (February/March issue, 2011). Her management, E4 PR, is particularly pleased about this achievement, as many of you know how difficult it is to get a feature in an international magazine like this, which is in the same league as Ebony, Pride, etc, which usually feature international Afro American stars like Halle Berry, Iman, Beyonce, Naomi Campbell et al.

Arise Magazine to Organize its Own Fashion Week in Lagos

Arise Magazine will launch its very own fashion week next by March:

They say, “The magazine will launch the event by inviting 50 of the biggest African designers to Lagos, Nigeria. The best of the group will be flown to New York for the first ever Arise Fashion Gala.” The designers list has not yet been revealed, but we should be hearing about them shortly.
Looks like I’ll be adding another country to my Fashion Week circuit.

2011 Oscar Nominations: The King's Speech Takes the Lead

The Oscar nominations are here! This morning, actress Mo'nique joined Academy president Tom Sherak to reveal this year's Oscar nominees in LA. There were a lot of nominees that were expected, but also a few surprises! The King's Speech and The Social Network have been dominating award season, and it's no different for the Academy Awards, but plenty of other films received lots of love this morning, like Winter's Bone, True Grit and Toy Story 3, which all made it into the 10-film best picture category.

Naturally, not everyone can get a nomination, so there were a few of my favorites shut out (like Ryan Gosling and Andrew Garfield). In any case, you can watch the live announcements right now, and to see the full list, just read more.

Oscar Nominations 2011 List

BEST PICTURE

We Predict:
'Black Swan'
'The Fighter'
'Inception'
'The Kids Are All Right'
'The King's Speech'
'The Social Network'
'The Town'
'Toy Story 3'
'True Grit'
'Winter's Bone'

Commentary: After winning practically every award in its path, 'The Social Network' is a lock for a nomination, and will probably win Best Picture, as well. The only film standing in its way is 'The King's Speech,' which just made an impressive showing at the BAFTA nominations and is classic Oscar bait.

Meanwhile, fan favorites 'Black Swan,' 'Inception' and 'The Fighter' are also sure-bets for nominations, but will have better luck chasing Oscar gold in the acting and technical categories.

As for the remaining slots, we think voters will make room for a wide variety of movies, just like they did last year with 'The Blind Side,' 'District 9' and 'A Serious Man.' If that's the case, expect nominations for movies like 'The Town' and 'Winter's Bone.'

BEST DIRECTOR

We Predict:
Darren Aronofsky, 'Black Swan'
David Fincher, 'The Social Network'
Tom Hooper, 'The King's Speech'
Christopher Nolan, 'Inception'
David O'Russell, 'The Fighter'

Possible spoilers: Joel and Ethan Coen, 'True Grit'; Mike Leigh, 'Another Year'; Roman Polanski, 'The Ghost Writer'; Danny Boyle, '127 Hours'

Commentary:: The Academy often likes to pull a surprise here (think David Lynch in 2001, or Mike Leigh in 2004). If that happens, we could see nominations for anyone from the Coen brothers, who released their most successful movie to date this year ('True Grit') to Academy favorite Roman Polanski, who received high praise for his work in 'The Ghost Writer.' But since our predicted five was nominated by both the Golden Globes and the Directors Guild of America, we think this will be the final lineup.

BEST ACTOR

We Predict:
Jeff Bridges, 'True Grit'
Robert Duvall, 'Get Low'
Jesse Eisenberg, 'The Social Network'
Colin Firth, 'The King's Speech'
James Franco, '127 Hours'

Possible spoilers: Ryan Gosling, 'Blue Valentine'; Mark Wahlberg, 'The Fighter'; Javier Bardem, Biutiful

Commentary: Eisenberg, Firth and Franco have received all of the major precusor nominations (BFCA, BAFTA, Golden Globes and SAG), which means they're locked for nominations. The remaining two slots, however, are a bit up in the air. Voters almost always nominate an actor over 50 in this category, which is good news for contenders like Bridges and Duvall. But their precursor nominations have been spotty at best, so there's a chance that under-the-radar contenders like Gosling or even Wahlberg could sneak in at the last minute.

BEST ACTRESS

We Predict:
Annette Bening, 'The Kids Are All Right'
Nicole Kidman, 'Rabbit Hole'
Jennifer Lawrence, 'Winter's Bone'
Natalie Portman, 'Black Swan'
Hailee Steinfeld, 'True Grit'

Possible spoilers: Lesley Manville, 'Another Year'; Michelle Williams, 'Blue Valentine'; Julianne Moore, 'The Kids Are All Right'; Noomi Rapace, 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo'; Hilary Swank, 'Conviction'

Commentary:
Golden Globe winners Annette Bening and Natalie Portman are locks for nominations -- as is Jennifer Lawrence for her well-received turn in the critically acclaimed indie 'Winter's Bone.'

Beyond that, things start to get a little tricky. There are still seven actresses competing for the final two slots, and any one of them could make it. But when the dust settles, we think we'll see nominations for Nicole Kidman, whose comeback performance in 'Rabbit Hole' was raved by critics, and, in a surprise, Hailee Steinfeld for 'True Grit.' Sure, she's being campaigned in Supporting Actress, but that hasn't stopped the Academy from voting differently before. (See Keisha Castle Hughes in 2003, and Kate Winslet in 2008.)

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR

We Predict:
Christian Bale, 'The Fighter'
Andrew Garfield, 'The Social Network'
Jeremy Renner, 'The Town'
Mark Ruffalo, 'The Kids Are All Right'
Geoffrey Rush, 'The King's Speech'

Possible spoilers: John Hawkes, 'Winter's Bone'; Sam Rockwell, 'Conviction'; Bill Murray, 'Get Low'

Commentary: This category seems to have fallen into place, with Christian Bale emerging as the frontrunner and likely Oscar winner and Geoffrey Rush as the runner-up. There's a chance that Andrew Garfield, Jeremy Renner and/or Mark Ruffalo could miss, but even the possible spoilers feel like longshots at this point.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS

We Predict:
Amy Adams, 'The Fighter'
Helena Bonham Carter, 'The King's Speech'
Mila Kunis, 'Black Swan'
Melissa Leo, 'The Fighter'
Jacki Weaver, 'Animal Kingdom'

Possible spoilers: Hailee Steinfeld, 'True Grit'; Lesley Manville, 'Another Year'

Commentary: Look for a one-two punch from the 'Fighter' girls in this category, especially after Amy Adams and Melissa Leo dominated the precursors. Helena Bonham Carter is a safe bet as well, considering she co-stars in 'The Social Network's' only real challenger for Best Picture.

Mila Kunis remains a distant fourth, though we're expecting her to ride the 'Black Swan' wave all the way to the Kodak Theater. And if Hailee Steinfeld winds up in Best Actress, that will likely mean good news -- and a nomination -- for Jacki Weaver, who's already received a number of accolaids for her performance in 'Animal Kingdom.'

BEST DOCUMENTARY

We Predict:
'Exit Through the Gift Shop'
'Inside Job'
'Precious Life'
'Restrepo'
'Waiting for 'Superman''

Possible spoilers: 'Client 9'; 'Gasland'; 'The Tillman Story'

Commentary: This is a notoriously tricky category to predict, as the documentary branch often tends to vote against the popular grain. But of the 15 finalists, we can at least call 'Waiting for 'Superman'' a lock. Beyond that, our guess is as good as your's.

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE

We Predict:
'How to Train Your Dragon'
'Tangled'
'Toy Story 3'

Commentary: Let's start with the obvious: 'Toy Story 3' will be nominated, and will win the Oscar in February. That's a done deal.

As for the runner-up slots, we think 'How to Train Your Dragon' is a lock, after wowing both critics and moviegoers. The third and final slot could go to a number of movies -- from 'Despicable Me' to 'The Illusionist' -- but we think voters will award 'Tangled' instead, given that it was a nice throwback to the days of 2-D animated Disney musicals.

Mr Nigeria was shot and robbed

It was a horrible day for Mr. Nigeria 2010, Kenneth Okolie on the dusk of Tuesday, January 4, 2010 while driving along Festac road in Lagos, as unknown gun men ambushed him, robbed him off his jewelry and accessories worth N350, 000; and upon taking off shot at him seven times – burying 7 bullets inside his body.

Kenneth Okolie, Mr Nigeria 2010
On the night of Tuesday, January 4, 2010 while driving home, unknown gun men ambushed him and shot him severally after robbing him of his jewelry and accessories worth N350, 000.
Survivor Okolie who was rushed to the hospital on time by good Samaritans in the neighborhood recounted his ordeal to NET over the telephone; revealing that the doctors had already removed six bullets from his body.
‘I was driving on the street so I slowed down. All of a sudden some guys just came out from nowhere on a bike and on the side walk. I wanted to move but one of them just shot in the air so I had to come down slowly.
They took my chains, white gold, and wristwatch, wallet containing my complementary cards, ID card and ATM card but there was no money in the wallet. All the things they took from me amounted to N350, 000 or thereabout and I was trying to plead with them but they cursed in Yoruba language. I was shot seven times but six bullets have been removed already’, he tells us.
According to the model who also emerged as the second runner up at the Mr World contest in 2010, the robbers took to their heels when the residents of the area started screaming ‘ole’ (thief) – leaving him by his Prado jeep as he writhed in pain.
As at the time of filing this report, Mr Okolie was fast healing up at home upon his discharge from the hospital.
‘I can’t really stretch my head but I’m walking well with my legs. I’ve been discharged from the hospital but still receiving medications’, he adds.

Unveil launched Makeup Institute TUI, Reveals the secret behind her beauty and fashion

When it comes to make-up industry, Bunmi Oyeniyi, the founding Director of UNVEIL STUDIO is no doubt one of the known names to be reckoned with. Over the years, she has made a mark for herself in enhancing the beauty of women with her signature makeup. The Estate Management graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife and is also trained and certified makeup artist from The London School of Make-up, London. Oyeniyi has successfully grown her business from a humble beginning into a world acclaimed international standard makeup studio.
After making a huge impact in the make-up industry and training over 200 students, in 2006, she added sales of wedding rings as a backward integration of the make-up business and the following year she hosted her beauty pageant named “FACE OF UNVEIL”.
More so in 2008, Oyeniyi launched her brush line called “THE UNVEIL PROFESSIONAL BRUSH”. The non-relenting amazon, push up the ladder in 2009, when she visualized “THE UNVEIL INSTITUTE”(TUI) to drive the imperative for a makeup artist to have multiple skills, meet the high demands of the industry and increase their earnings potential. Thus, TUI is conceived to provide the highest standard of education in all aspect of beauty and make up. She disclosed to OYINDAMOLA LAWAL the secret behind her ever glowing beauty, her unique fashion trends and her new project
About THE UNVEIL INSTITUTE (TUI)
THE UNVEIL INSTITUTE (TUI) was born to provide the highest standard of education in all aspect of beauty and makeup. It has the value proposition of the international standard institute mainly in make-up artistry and we spiced it up with a little bit of Decoration, Craft, Hair and Nail techniques and Entrepreneur training. It is setup to train amateurs to master stylists to the best standard and help launch their career in the industry. Elocution and etiquette is also added to the curriculum to give students that distinct touch.
I have trained over 200 students over time; most people outside Lagos would call me asking for accommodation, if they could stay with me for that short while during their program. Dealing with this for two years, we taught of what to do that would be different from what others are doing and that is how we came up with TUI. The school is located in Omole phrase 2, it is a whole building, and Ministry of Education have inspected the place. The concept behind it is instead of whiling away time at home, waiting for result and all that, it is like a University, you come and having a training and get a career out of it. We have borrowed courses, because everyone cannot be a make-up artist. So we chose decoration and other things within the beauty industry. Every student have to pick one borrowed course, it is a must.  More so, it is a total package, for instance, if you are for makeup, you get make-up box and brushes, if you are in for decoration you get all your equipment and materials needed for the training.  All work and no play makes Jill a dull girl, we have extracurricular activities like Talent hunt, Movie Nights, Pyjamas Nights, Weekend groove, Fitness class, Game hour……it’s going to be fun all the way.
Why A Live in School
The live-in institute additionally caters for day students to create a flexible plan for those staying in Lagos.  We have four sections in one year, two months for one section and at the end of the year we will do graduation for them all. Though we said it is a live-in school that cater for day students but the guys will not be allowed to stay in the hostel, because if anything happen I am responsible for each and every one of them.”
Unveil Makeup
I think our make-up is fantastic and we have always put a smile on our clients’ faces.
How would you define fashion?
Fashion is comfort. Fashion is how you can combine your colour, how you can carry yourself; fashion is what work for you. Sometimes I go with the trend, but I always go with what suits me. For me fashion is what I make of it.
Your favourite piece of clothing
I love jacket, it makes look smart and snazzy
Favourite designer
I wear Bebe, I like Bebe. For accessories I love Gucci, for clothing I like Karen Mellin
Signature scent
Raphl Lauren “Safari”,  Christian Dior, there is this new perfume is called Unveil, I saw it on the plane I think it is nice.
Most cherished possession
It is my Jewellery, not my car.
What you won’t be caught dead wearing
Boot, well some people like it, but for me knee length boot when it is like death hot, it doesn’t follow.
Beauty routine
Funny enough I don’t have,  I just take my bath on daily basis, I do my cleansing like twice a week and I use my moisturizer because my skin is very sensitive, I don’t  facials, I only exfoliate.
Favourite beauty product
Mac
If you are giving a chance to change something in Nigeria what will it be?
Good leader, we do have good leaders, but I think they should be left alone to be able to make an impact. They criticize them a lot, even before they get there, they are been criticized. I think if you have voted someone in, you should leave them to what they have come there to do.
Role model
Oprah, because she has touched a lot of people’s lives.
What have you learnt over the years?
I have learnt how to handle stress, because I never knew how to handle stress, how to work with different people of different background and most importantly how to use your hand to earn a living.
Most embarrassing moment
I don’t have any embarrassing moment
 Most memorable
 When I had my son
How was growing up like?
It has nice, it was challenging , it was a bit tough, maybe that is why I am who I am, I didn’t get everything at my disposal, I had to really work for whatever I got . I thank God because it has groomed me to a very better person.
Challenges
Because they are called challenges, there is always a solution; with prayer, fasting and if you have good people around, you will always be able to deal with challenges.  For me, challenges in the make-up industry are time factor, the mediocre (people that  just have two to three day training in make-up and somebody will be comparing you with them) but your work will speak for you, with that i have been able to overcome.
Most expensive item
My bangle, wrist watches, jewellery, since my car is not an item.
Her vision and mission
My vision is to nurture amateurs into master stylist and bring real world into the classroom; in addition to that, creating an enabling environment where every student is encouraged to develop a passion for a lifetime career in the world of beauty and makeup.  My desire is to help young women find their place in this fast paced excelling profession via a two pronged approach of theoretical learning and hands-on practical.
