Former Miss world, Agbani Darego is definitely back on track. It’s great to see that ten years later, Agbani’s still making her mark. Agbani Darego is a Nigerian model, best known as the first black African Miss World. We are so proud of Africa’s first Miss World, as she dazzled the pages of the Beauty column of this month’s issue of one of America's leading magazines, Essence Magazine.
The beauty queen comes from Abonnema, Rivers, longed to be a model since she was a teenager and her modeling career started when she competed in the M-Net Face of Africa competition. Although she did not make it past the first round, Darego continued her modeling pursuits and in 2001 was crowned Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria . Also in 2001, she represented Nigeria in the Miss Universe competition, held in Puerto Rico, where she placed among the top 10 semi-finalists and finished seventh. Notably, she was the only black semi-finalist that year. Darego was eventually crowned Miss World in 2001, beating Miss Scotland and Miss Aruba in the final round.
After her victory, Darego left the University of Port Harcourt, where she was studying Computer Science, and is now studying Psychology at New York University. She is currently signed to Ford Models in New York. The theme of the beauty article is “Get Sexy & Smooth“. The beauty feature focuses on keeping your skin healthy and vibrant even during the harsh winter months.
