27FaB Launches Fabulousity
BY Oyindamola Lawal
27FaB is very excited to launch its mini debut collection, tagged
‘fabulousity’, a word trademarked by fashion/design mogul,
Kimora Lee Simmons, meaning being the best at everything, looking fabulously
sexy, having the best things and flaunting your fabulousness, which every piece
of this collection depicts.
The collection emblazoned by the designer,
Oyindamola Lawal is a blend of rich and sophisticated traditional clothing with
clean and classic western cuts. The beautiful use of Nigerian heritage fabric
with new aesthetic dimensions completed her array.
Her mini debut collection, which is inspired by fashion mogul, Kimora
Lee Simmons and the amazing African lady silhouettes, is a perfect blend of
simplicity and sophistication.
The label, which was created by Oyindamola ,a blogger and fashion/style
writer has no boundaries when it comes to experimenting with different styles,
designs, fabrics and colour. She tagged it ‘mini collection’ because it is a
pinch of her main collection, which she intends to launch next year. However,
to her, this was done to officially launch herself into the fashion scene and
for the Christmas edition of Gem Woman magazine’s fashion page (SIMPLY CHIC)
with the theme called BRIGHT LIGHTS.
According to her, “Fabulousity
is perfectly suited to that modern girl of today who is independent, strong and
yet graceful thus enhancing her innate elegance. This collection accentuates the feminine contour, which
displays glamorous dresses, skirts, blazers, shirts, tops and pants. The
designs also come in brilliant embellishments.”
The vivacious collection, which comes with very well chosen colour
palette of vibrant colours, kept in mind the need of today’s women who seek for
comfort, elegance and are not afraid to express the inner beauty through
fashion, most especially colour and styles.
The collection features different
fabrics including Aso-oke, ankara, lace, sari fabric, chiffon and cotton to
mention just a few. Transforming hand-woven Nigerian fabric, Aso oke, into a
unique flexible, edgy yet classy and well embellished ensembles, contemporary,
edgy silhouettes coupled with traditional techniques gives a classy and
rich look to the collection. However, the prints and embellishments add drama
and wow factor, helping to make the appeal broad and inclusive.
Oyindamola Lawal’s amazing career in
fashion, love of design and unique appeal to African ladies has helped her to
create the exciting collection. She has created a coordinated range
of chic, modern, edgy, classy and stylish pieces, using timeless key pieces for
inspiration.
The whole collection is edgy and futuristic with the geometrical patterns, detailed embellishments, lace, flowers, sheer shirts, cocktail dresses, one-shoulder puff evening dress, fringe skirts, embellished high waist skirts, separated pleat-detailed slit, multi-coloured Ankara blazers, rose-pattern detailed aso-oke skirt and corset, long front-zipper skirts, lace tops and white palazzo pant. Sophistication, detail and precision were the highlighting elements of this collection.

Johnson to mention just a few.

Flawless, stylish… beauty is Ronke
BY OYINDAMOLA LAWAL
RONKE
Ademiluyi is the brain behind Africa Fashion Week, London. In the last few
years, Ronke has proved that she is not only a style icon, but also, a trendsetter.
Having made a huge success as a
clothier in the country, the pretty lawyer decided to take her love for fashion
to a new dimension, promoting creative African designers in the international
market with her yearly Africa Fashion Week, London, which is set to hold on August
3 and 4, 2012 at the London Spitalfield Market.
With all her tailored signature looks, Ronke’s style is something that all
can learn from
Have a sense of style
Create your own fashion and have your
own style, because it's not right to wear something that isn't you. It's often
better to have a basic personal style than to always be chasing the latest
‘fad’ look.
Have good
taste in clothing. Like the lawyer-turned entrepreneur, be modest in clothing
and avoid clothing of bad taste.
Be conservative
The fair complexioned Chief Executive
Officer of Rukkies Boutique is indeed a trendsetter and follower, yet very
conservative. She says, “ I follow the fashion trends of every season, but
in a conservative way.”
Keeping it
clean and simple
The pretty
damsel knows that a clean and simple outfit can be incredibly elegant as well
as very trendy.
Dazzle in black
Ronke’s favourite colour is black; like they say, you
cannot go wrong in black. Black is an all-around classic, and Ronke certainly
takes that to heart.
Knee length
dresses rocks
It is advisable to dress yourself in the way you will be comfortable. Ronke’s favourite piece of
clothing is knee length dresses, they make
her comfortable, chic and elegant. Knee length dresses end up being effortless
to wear, as they are comfortable tending to be matched with either sandals,
flats, high heel slides or boots.
Rock the scent
So Pretty by
Cartier does the magic for her.
Let the design speak
She discloses, “I
honestly do not have a favourite designer, if I like a design, I just buy, not
necessarily because of the name. What interests me is the design itself.”
Wow with accessories
Ronke’s favourite accessory
is her Rolex wristwatch, but one fashion piece that she cannot leave the house
without is, her handbag.
All Rukkies
The boutique owner
does her shopping in her boutique, Rukkies in Lagos. She adds, “Charity begins
at home.”
Obagi, the secret of her flawless touch
For over 20 years, Dr. Zein Obagi has been leading the skin care industry with the Obagi products for anti-ageing and skin health. Obagi skin care offers several condition-specific
skin treatments to gently yet aggressively help treat your skin concerns.
Obagi is a
world-renowned brand with one of the highest rates of efficacy. You wonder, the secret behind Ronke’s
flawless skin, it is Obagi.
Introducing You to Cynthia Chisom Umezulike
For those in the fashion industry or anyone who
has seen last week’s ‘Come Dine With Me’, UK's Channel 4's highest rated show drawing in
an average of 4-5 Million viewers per episode, Cynthia Chisom Umezulike is certainly not a new
name, but there is much more to the Nigerian model than just a pretty face.
Scouted at the age of 15 in her native Nigeria,
Cynthia got her first break at the Ford Model Awards Nigeria, taking part in
the Nigerian Fashion Week and the Nigerian Model Awards. In 2006, she became
Miss Tourism Lagos and was selected to represent Nigeria at the Miss Bikini
World in Taiwan. In 2010, Cynthia went on to win Miss Commonwealth International
Nigeria, a title the model deployed to raise awareness for the Save the
Children Foundation, a charity organisation she volunteers for and supports and
her own charitable foundation Blessings and Blossoms Foundation, which aims to
provide school supplies and textbooks for children in need. As Miss
Commonwealth Nigeria, she also represented Nigeria alongside 50 other delegates from
around the world at the Miss Commonwealth International.
The above are not the only titles this young woman
holds. With Chief Justice of Enugu State and a professor of intellectual
property for a father and a professor of women education and consultant on
adult education for a mother, Cynthia has followed the footsteps of her
academic parents and boasts a Master's degree (LLM) in Human Rights Law from
the University of London, Queen Mary and will soon be embarking on a doctorate
programme focusing on the International Laws on the Right of a Child.
Brainy and beautiful, since her move to London to
pursue her Master’s in favour of a call from the Nigerian bar, Cynthia has
managed to balance academics with modelling, often opting for London Fashion
Week shows in order not to disrupt her studies. As well as walking at Vauxhall
Fashion Scout show, showcasing for Jasper Garvida and
celebrity designer Rhiannon Jones Bolshie alongside Nigerian couturiers Adebayo
Jones and Yemi Osunkoya of Koshiba, Cynthia has also been featured in numerous
international publications including New African Woman, FAB Online, The Sun,
The Voice to name a few.
Once an awkwardly thin teenager, now a beautiful and confident young
woman, Cynthia has also completed her first book titled Parallel Sapphires – Rules to Inspire which, drawing on her on
experience growing up, offers a detailed guidance on how teenagers can build
their self esteem, accept their true worth and realise their full potential.
Naming the former United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, one of 20th
century's most influential figures, Eleanor Roosevelt, and entrepreneur and
fashion icon Victoria Beckham as her inspirations and her dad as her role
model, it seems Cynthia is set for higher heights.
With more TV appearances lined up
and selected as one of the models for the Africa Fashion Week London 2012 to
walk at London Spitalfields on 3-4 August, there is much more to come from
Cynthia than ‘Come Dine with Me’.
