United State of Nigeria: TV Series

United States of Nigeria is the new TV series by filmmaker Ayo Shonaiya, traveling around America meeting and interacting with Nigerians with interesting lives and stories to tell, from the tame 2nd generation Nigerian/American Ibo girl wishing for an Ibo husband to female rapper who's next move is to come conquer the Nigerian music scene (even though she's never been to Nigeria before).

The fly-on-the-wall/documentary style half hour program also features super-rich American celebrities who are born to Nigerian parents and of course the real-life strugglers in God's own country who are stuck in the immigration crack in the wall and can't return home just yet.

United States of Nigeria is an entertaining look at life for different Nigerians in America, brought to you by the No.1 producers of Nigerian TV content in the UK, R70 World.

For sponsorship and advert placement on the program on Nigerian television and on BEN TV in the UK, please email: sponsorship@r70.com for more details and rates, or in Nigeria call PJ on 01 950 5115 or 0808 230 2940.

Modeling is My Life - Kate Menson

Kate Techie Menson, winner of the 2008 Face of Africa modeling competition has declared her intention to become the next African
international supermodel. She agrees that apart from Oluchi, winner of the first edition of the competition, none of the other winners has been able to attain global recognition; and she hopes that she would be able to change all that.

“I am giving it my all and doing what I have to do. I know what I want to achieve and where I want to get to and that is on Oluchi’s level and even above or better. With dreams like that and the
determination and confidence it is possible to do it.”

The striking 23-year-old Ghanaian model has had quite a journey in the modeling and fashion world, working with some top Ghanaian fashion designers either for free, or for a next-to-nothing fee. Prior to winning the M-net Face of Africa contest, she had participated in ‘Top Model Ghana’ and even auditioned for the 2006 edition of the Face of Africa competition, where she was turned down because she didn’t fit the body measurement required for the contest. But with determination and hard work, she
forged on until finally winning the biggest prize in modeling on the African continent.

Kate sees her victory as a means to inspire and mentor others to become like her. “It means a lot because when you win such a competition, you become a mentor for other people; other aspiring models. It is a great feeling and it comes with some responsibilities.”

Jessica Alba Shopping at Saks Fifth

This girl is one shopping machine! Earlier today Jessica Alba was spotted out shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue with her mother Catherine in Los Angeles, California. I guess Jess doesn’t get to see much of her family these days since she’s been spending a lot of time with them. Either that or they’ve extended their stay past the holidays.

Hilary Duff in Studio City

Looking cute in a yellow top and fringe boots actress Hilary Duff was spotted on her way to visit a friend’s home in Studio City, California on Tuesday. It’s been a while since I’ve posted some pictures of her! Where has she been hiding out???

Fergie Does a Little Pampering

She’s been working out for the past week to get ready for weekend wedding but earlier today Fergie was spotted out doing a little pampering while visiting the Sonya Dakar skin care salon in Beverly Hills, California.

HKTDC Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall / Winter 2009

Star Performer in the Fashion Stakes
The largest fashion event in Asia celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2009 – proof that HKTDC Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter is an effective trading platform that year after year brings exhibitors and buyers together to achieve business success.

Time Sensitive
Fashion is a dynamic industry: trends come and go, product life cycles get shorter, technological developments result in new fabrics and yarns. The Fall/Winter 2009 edition keeps its finger on the pulse, enabling buyers to source products that will be well received in the market.

Global Reach
Reflecting the global nature of the industry, participation in the fair is also very international. In 2008, 1,490 exhibitors from 20 countries and regions took part. A total of 23,700 buyers from 100 countries and regions came through the doors over the four days of the show.

Sourcing Hub
Hong Kong is a global fashion sourcing hub, which exports a wide variety of clothing and clothing accessories to markets around the world. In 2007, exports were valued at US$28.77 billion; while the US remains the biggest market with a share of around 37%, among markets performing significantly well are the Russian Federation and several countries in Southeast Asia, while the EU continues to show healthy growth.

In the Zone
Good organisation is another factor in Fashion Week's good record. Themed zones highlight key sectors, ensuring buyers can locate their market niche with ease. A new zone has been created at the Spring/Summer edition in 2008 covering Fabrics & Yarn, featuring a wide range of products including cotton, embroidery, linen and wool, plus yarns. It joins the zones introduced in 2007 and well received by buyers, namely Emporium de Mode, which puts the spotlight on top-notch high fashion; Spice Arena, which presents a dazzling array of hats, shoes, scarves and handbags, and Infant & Children's wear.
Also featured are the well-established zones of Garment & Accessories Mart, Body & Intimate Wear, Bridal & Evening Wear, Fashion Gallery and Sewing Supplies.

Brand Conscious
Running concurrently with Hong Kong Fashion Week is HKTDC World Boutique, Hong Kong 2009, Asia's pioneer show promoting designers' collections and brands from around the world.

At Your Service
Fashion Week also prides itself on providing a range of facilities and services to enhance the fair experience. VIP buyers can avail themselves of the Dragon Lounge, where they can relax with complimentary light refreshments, check emails, read newspapers and business magazines, as well as hold meetings in private rooms. All fair-goers have access to the Business Centre, well-equipped to deal with a range of services including on-the-spot name card printing, document scanning, photocopying, and the sale of stationery.

Buyers’ Comments
"We have brought in a delegation comprising managers from 10 mainland department stores of Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Tianjin, Dalian and Qingdao who are all interested to source new brands for their stores. Some of them have already spotted some companies offering young ladies' wear, handbags, fashion watches and accessories. We really appreciate that HKTDC organised a round-table meeting to introduce us to prospective brand-name suppliers and also offered us the Business Matching Service. With the mainland market now open to overseas products, the fair is not only a useful sourcing hub for us, but also a platform where we learn from our international counterparts as well as build up our contacts and network."
Fan Yanru, Vice Secretary General,
China Commerce Association For General Merchandise,
Chinese mainland

"I have been to the fair before and this time I'm coming with owners of 10 other Japanese companies who have never been here. They are all very impressed by the size of the fair and the variety of products on display. This event has become much better, with exhibitors showcasing individual and original designs. We like trade shows with both big and small companies because very often it is those small ones which offer unique creations – these are what we want to explore."
Hitoshi Tajima, CEO,
D N A Co Ltd, Japan

"We are always interested in new things, especially items that are fashionable and well-made. This is the only fair that we attend and about 20% of our total orders for the year will come from this fair."
Sylvania Espelt, Designer,
Espelt, Spain

"We have 150 shops in Australia so we are always looking for new suppliers and new styles, colours and designs. We have been coming to Hong Kong Fashion Week since its inception, looking not only for clothing, but also for shop fittings, lights and display units. You can't afford not to come to this fair because if there were something new, you would miss it. It's the most important fair for us."
Hans Mueller, Managing Director,
Lowes, Australia

Act Now!
Ensure you make the most of the sourcing and networking opportunities offered by Fashion Week by marking it on your agenda now! The show runs from 12-15 January 2009.

Is Madonna's Little Girl Meant for Stardom?

We've been anxiously awaiting the acting/singing/modeling debut of Madonna's firstborn, Lourdes Ciccone Leon, for a while. The 14-year-old, who looks like she just fell out of an American Apparel ad, always seemed destined to follow in her mother's creative footsteps.

Looks like we may have to wait awhile longer. Despite a report that she's enrolled in Manhattan's Professional Children's School (also attended by Sarah Jessica Parker, ScarJo and the Tiz), Madonna's rep tells E! News, "That is not true."

Teen Kate Hudson Crazy for Boys!

Forget pretty ponies or science homework, Kate Hudson reveals in the new Elle that something else was on her teenage mind.

"When I was a teenager, like, when I turned 16, I loved boys. That was just my thing," says the Bride Wars actress. "I still love boys." (This may or may not explain her romances with Owen Wilson, Lance Armstrong and Dax Shepard.)

As an adult, she seems to have learned much from her mom, Goldie Hawn, about the proper care and feeding of a relationship.

"People think that you can put your sexual life on hold, but you have to find time for it. Without that relationship, our family is broken. My mom really implanted that in me when I was pregnant."

Wait a minute, Kate: She told you about sex after you were pregnant?

momo

Momo’s Luxurious, Alluring Feel For 2009
BY Oyindamola Lawal
African fashion is about to step into the limelight. One of Nigerian International fashion designer, Fati Asibelua of Momo, recently launched a combination of rich ceremonial heritage, traditional patterns, and vibrant colours for 2009.
Her spring/ summer 2009 collection is inspired by some of the most influential and glamorous fashion icons of the twenties century; it embodies the timeless style of icon past and present, in particular Audrey Hepburn, and mixes it with traditional African patterns.
However, Hepburn’s entirely original look has become the benchmark for modern elegance and the Spring range from Momo embodies her modern sense of elegance fused with the romantic look and use of colour popularized in the early 1980s.
Momo’s 2009 collection highlight the feminine silhouette, the collection features short and long dresses ideal for summer occasion wear. Design in wispy sheer silks with light airy volume, weightless layering and soft drapery provide fluid ethereal shapes. At the heart of the collection is the Grecian goddess dress. The sensual one shoulder style is accentuated with knotted and twisted necklines providing a modern edge to the classic cut.
A colour palate of fresh pastel in soft summery hues evokes a sense of freshness and optimum symbolic of spring’s new beginnings. Pop of clean clear turquoise; fun and optimistic lemon; and refreshing soft limes are reminiscent of blossoming flowers.
Over the years, the leading African label Momo has been seen on some of the world’s most renowned models including Alek Wek, Liya Kebede and Oluchi and has built a reputation as one of Africa’s most influential, exclusive and sought after fashion brands.
The company was founded in 2000 with the inception of fabric boutique but has expanded into a brand specializing in fabrics, high-fashion clothing, fashion accessories and lifestyle products. For the past eight years, Asibelua continues nurturing a substantial following in the Nigerian fashion industry. Momo’s creative Director presents an intense ambition, an artistic spirit and a global fashion perspective.
Staying true to its heritage, Momo’s spring/summer collection delivers a delightful visual collage with a timeless mix of African print in stripes, polka dots and checks. Used for special ceremonial purposes, these traditional African patterns are found in handcrafted, indigenous textiles across the African continent. The mix of traditional patterns with this season’s bright colours and modern shapes offers an exciting blend of African culture with a luxurious and alluring styles.
