‘Give me loose Boho dresses and my day is made’ Omawumi




Pronto, 2007, Omawumi Boma Megbele, was a relatively unknown singer until she found her herself in the Idols West Africa, a musical reality show, which was eventually won by Timi Dakolo. Born on April 13 to Late Chief Frank Anirejuoritse Megbele and Mrs. Aya Queen Megbele, Omawumi had her primary education at Nana Primary School and for her secondary school, she was at the College of Education Demonstration Secondary School both in Warri, Delta State. She later went to the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, where she studied Law. On graduation, she moved to Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, where she worked with her family’s law firm, O.S Megbele & Associates. After Idols West Africa, Omawumi a popular figure in the Nigeria’s entertainment scene and in fact, won the Best Female Vocal Performance and Next Rated Artiste, at the Hip Hop World Awards. In 2010, she also won the Best R’n’B/Pop Artiste at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards, New York; Best Female Music Video, Nigerian Entertainment Awards; Outstanding Recording Artiste, Icon Awards; Best New Artiste, Women in Entertainment and Arts, Vivacity PR, London; Project Alert Icon in recognition of her commitment to advocating for zero-tolerance for all forms of violence against women and young girls. She was. She tells DANIEL ANAZIA what fashion and style is to her.

What is your view of fashion?
   Fashion is a form of identification… it is another way people can see and tell a bit about you. Fashion is all encompassing; so it’s left for the individual to decide how to piece it all up.

And essence of your style
  Comfort and being sexy.

Favourite piece of clothing
  My loose Boho dresses for day wear and my jeans.

Most expensive item ever bought and its cost value
  I no dey talk o!...before brothers of the evening remember me.

Favourite colour
  My favourite colour depends on the season, my mood, different things but on the whole I like earth tones like brown, orange, beige, rusty red...colours you can find in/on the earth. Right now, though, I'm feeling fuchsia and royal blue.

Favourite signature perfume
  I like classics like Elizabeth Arden, Channel, YSL...no be say new perfume come I don buy.

Favourite designer
  They are so many that I have lost count but these designers, Ituen Bassey, Ejiro Amos Tafiri, and Lisa Folawiyo are doing pretty good with their works.

What would you not be caught wearing any day?
   I 've learnt to say 'Never say never'....

How often do you change your wardrobe?
   Yearly...but there are some pieces I 've kept since secondary school days.

Favourite food
   Anything spicy and native. I like swallow well well... so, give me my native food...Banga, Owho and starch.

What would you consider sexy in both men and women?
   Underwear.

Choice holiday destination
   I like tropical places like Abraka Resort and Tinapa. I’m proudly Nigerian. Also I like Seychelles and Honolulu.

Likes 
  I like honest and hardworking people. I find it really difficult to work around slow people.

Dislikes
  I detest lies and laziness.

What would you like to change in Nigeria, if given the opportunity?
   Our mind set as Nigerians that it’s okay to be corrupt, and infuse the zeal for education and enlightenment.

Secret behind glowing skin
  I ensure I bath well, wash my face and use a good moisturizer.

What is on shopping list for the month?
  Ah e plenty…I like buy buy o!
