Senator Evan Bayh has recommended that President Barack Obama name Marion County Superior Court Judge Tanya Walton Pratt to be a federal judge for the Southern District of Indiana. The move would make Pratt the first African-American federal judge in Indiana history. The Spelman College and Howard University School of Law graduate is the fourth woman to be named a federal judge in the state. Pratt, who has worked as a private practice lawyer, also has served as deputy public defender in the probate division of the Marion Superior Court.
